Pakistan giant Babar Azam continued his fruitful affair with the shortest format during the much-anticipated Qualifier game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Thursday (March 14) against the Multan Sultans.

Even though his team Peshawar Zalmi faced a defeat at the hands of the PSL 2024 table toppers, captain Babar had a reasonable outing with the bat, playing a measured knock of 46 off 42 deliveries in the first half of the game.

During his knock against the Sultans, the elegant batter also scripted another major landmark in his career as he reached over 1,000-run mark in all T20s for the year 2024. Babar was only 38 runs behind the remarkable feat at the start of the game but ended it with a tally of 1,008* runs from just 21 innings.

Babar Azam Bags Special T20 Milestone For 2024

Only three months and just over 20 innings into 2024, Babar reached the 1,000th run after having dominated the bowling for Pakistan and through his stints in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and now Zalmi franchise in the PSL 2024.

The 29-year-old underwent a difficult period of his career at the fag end of 2023 but has been on a resurgent trail, especially in T20s. Babar made 213 runs over five T20Is during the tour of New Zealand in January and followed it up with 251 runs in six innings of the BPL 2024 for Rangpur Riders.

Since the start of the fresh PSL campaign for the Zalmi, their captain and batting asset is currently the top run-getter of the competition with 544 runs from just 10 innings.

A prolific run in the last three assignments has given Babar a great tally of 1,008 runs in only 21 innings, made at an average of 53.05 while maintaining a strike-rate of 135.12.
