India were expected to get off to a fiery start against the West Indies on Sunday (August 6) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana after winning the toss and choosing to bat. The Men in Blue were down 0-1 in the five-match series and would like to level it up. However, all they had in the first three overs were disappointments.

Only 17 runs could be scored by the visitors off the first 18 balls, and that too at the expense of Shubman Gill. After playing nine balls in the series opener and falling for three runs, the 23-year-old was under a lot of pressure to regain his good-old form.

After playing a few balls cautiously, Gill seemed to finally break the shackles by pulling Alzarri Joseph’s short-of-a-length delivery for six runs. But he lost his wicket in the following delivery, finding a leading edge while trying to hit another biggie.

The ball went straight to the safe hands of Shimron Hetmyer, who was placed at deep third and collected the ball without any danger. Gill, in the process, started walking to the pavilion after scoring seven off nine balls.

India, meanwhile, have reached 104 for four in 14.5 overs, with Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya unbeaten in the middle.
