In a stunning display of batting, India D skipper Shreyas Iyer stroked a brisk 54 runs in their second innings against India C at the Duleep Trophy 2024 held at Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur. Iyer, who had an ordinary outing with nine runs in the first innings, struck back in style as he slammed faced 54 runs off 44 balls at a strike rate of 122.72.

During his time at the crease he smashed nine boundaries and a six, and his knock was laced with some aggressive stroke play. He did well but looked disappointed on his way back to the pavillion as he failed to convert such an excellent and promising start to a century. 

He came juggling in at 13/1 and, along with Devdutt Padikkal, added 53 runs for the third wicket, steadying the innings before getting out at the fall of 93/3 for India D. It was Anshul Kamboj who took his wicket with the help of a stunning catch by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Interestingly, early on in the Day 2's play a fan rushed onto the field and touched Gaikwad's feet. 



Success Early On for Ruturaj Gaikwad Led India C; India D Hangs On

In the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024, India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl to put some early pressure on the opposition. His decision clicked as India D found themselves in a spot of bother, having lost quite a few top-order batters on single-digit scores. 

The main man involved in this early success was Vijaykumar Vyshak, who first castled Athrava Taide for just four runs and also was the reason behind dismissals of Yash Dubey and Shreyas Iyer, both falling cheaply.

In that, Vyshak bowled exceptionally for India C and accounted for three vital wickets. Anshul Kamboj and Himanshu Chauhan contributed with two wickets apiece. Despite these, India D were able to score 164 in their first innings.

In response, the batting of India C caved in under pressure and they were eventually bowled out for 168. Harshit Rana engineered this fall with a brilliant display with the ball. He even celebrated his success with his signature 'Flying Kiss.' Baba Indrajith's 66 off 137 balls was an important innings that gave India C a tiny lead.

At the time of writing, India D, batting second are at 123-3 with Ricky Bhui and Devdutt Padikkal in the middle.
