Pakistan's premier fast bowler Shaheen Afridi showcased his power-hitting skills in the Lions' Champions Cup encounter against the Stallions in Faisalabad last night. Renowned for his lethal new-ball bowling, Shaheen stunned his Pakistan teammate Abrar Ahmed with a huge six.
The incident occurred during the 37th over of the Lions' innings when they were reeling at 185 for eight in pursuit of a mammoth 337-run target. As his side had already been pushed to the verge of a disastrous defeat, Shaheen Afridi, who earlier got the prized scalp of Babar Azam, had no option but to go for the kill.
He targeted the Stallions' ace spinner Abrar Ahmed for this purpose, smashing him for a glorious six straight down the ground. Abrar had an outstanding start to the over, bowling four consecutive dot balls. However, Shaheen dispatched his penultimate delivery out of the ground to help his side breach the 190-run mark.
From around the wicket, Abrar bowled a full-length delivery way outside the off stump, allowing Shaheen to free his arms. The tall fast bowler perfectly used his reach, depositing the ball into the long-on stand for a gorgeous maximum.
However, soon after hitting the six, Shaheen Afridi was dismissed by his pace-bowling partner Haris Rauf in the next over. He struck 22 runs off 21 deliveries with the help of a boundary and two sixes.
Babar Shines, Shaheen Fails As Stallions Thrash Lions
Soon after Shaheen's dismissal, the Lions were bowled out for 203 runs in 39.3 overs. Imam-ul-Haq was their lone warrior with the bat, while Sharoon Siraj contributed 28 runs. Earlier, the Stallions posted a whopping total, thanks to flamboyant half-centuries from Babar Azam, Tayyab Tahir and a blistering cameo from skipper Mohammad Haris.
With this clinical 133-run victory, the Stallions powered themselves to the second position in the Champions Cup points table, with the Lions placed fourth in the five-team standings.
