Prominent Australia and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Glenn Maxwell is eagerly waiting for Virat Kohli's high-voltage face-off with Steve Smith in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Kohli and Smith have been absolute legends of the game, having showcased their prowess umpteen times in international cricket.

While Virat Kohli continues to be an asset for India in all three formats, Smith is an integral member of Australia's Test and ODI teams. Considering their ability to star with the bat at the highest level, Maxwell expects the talismanic batters to light up the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with their scintillating performances.

Speaking to Star Sports, Maxwell reckoned Kohli and Smith's performances would decide the series' outcome.

“I think probably the way that the two superstar batters, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, probably head-to-head, seeing how their dominance, I suppose, is asserted in the series and how much of an influence that has on who takes home the Border Gavaskar Trophy," Maxwell said.

The explosive batting all-rounder also expressed his excitement about watching the superstars taking each other head-on in the much-anticipated series.

“One of those two is going to make a lot of runs, if not both of them, and it’s going to be pretty exciting to watch the two of the finest players of our generation go head-to-head,” he added.
