Experienced all-rounder Shadab Khan exhibited his commendable athleticism during Pakistan's ongoing Asia Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka, helping his side get the prized scalp of Kusal Perera through a sensational direct hit. Shadab hasn't had a great tournament, as he has failed to deliver with both bat and ball in crucial matches. However, the Pakistani vice-captain had his moment of glory during the virtual knockout, dismissing Perera through a sensational direct throw.

Chasing a challenging target of 252 (DLS), Sri Lanka had a dream start to their innings, as Kusal Perera announced himself in the Asia Cup with a flurry of boundaries off ace Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi. However, his brief stay in the middle was concluded on a sad note, as Shadab showed his agility with a sensational direct hit.

The incident occurred in the fourth over when debutant Zaman Khan came to bowl the second over of his first spell. After conceding boundary off his first ball, Zaman bowled a length delivery, with Perera attempting for a quick single to get off strike.

However, Shadab, stationed at point, hit the bull's eye from a considerable distance to leave the swashbuckling southpaw shell-shocked.

Perera's wicket was crucial for Pakistan, as he had already raced to 17 off just eight balls with the help of four deliveries.

After his departure, keeper-batter Kusal Mendis joined the middle to steady the Lankan ship alongside Pathum Nissanka. As of writing, the hosts are 37 for one in 6.2 overs, with Nissanka and Mendis batting 9* and 7*, respectively.
