England's white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, expressed his focus on the team's style of play rather than squad selection ahead of the 3rd ODI in London. Buttler emphasized the importance of encouraging a more positive and aggressive approach, seeking to free the team from inhibitions.

During the toss ceremony for the third ODI between England and New Zealand at The Oval, Buttler reiterated his desire to witness a positive intent from his players in batting, bowling, and fielding.

"I'm more focused on the style of play that we want at the moment. We spoke after the last game about freeing ourselves up, and getting back to being even more positive and aggressive. That's what I've encouraged everyone to do ahead of today. I hope to see that positive intent with the bat, ball and in the field," Jos Buttler said during the toss time of the third ODI at the Oval.

Looking ahead, England are scheduled to play a total of nine matches during the league stage of the ICC World Cup 2023, with each team facing off once before the semi-finals. Buttler will lead the team in both the lead-up matches and the tournament itself. Additionally, the return of star all-rounder Ben Stokes from ODI retirement bolsters England's World Cup prospects.

The defending champions will kickstart their World Cup campaign on October 5th, facing New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Prior to the marquee event, England and New Zealand are currently engaged in a four-match ODI series, serving as valuable preparation for the upcoming tournament. In the ongoing series, England and New Zealand have been engaged in a competitive battle.

Nevertheless, after securing a victory in the series opener, the Blackcaps faced consecutive losses in the following two matches, trailing 1-2.

The last match at the Oval saw an exceptional performance from Ben Stokes that left the visitors astounded. Both teams are now set to face off in the fourth and conclusive ODI of their series on Friday, September 15th at Lord’s.
