India came in to bat after dominating Australia in the first and second sessions of Day 2. Cleaning the Aussies for 181, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul walked in on the crease and started aggressively.
However, Jaiswal's promising innings came to a dramatic end at the hands of Australia’s Scott Boland early at the beginning of Session 3 at the SCG, leaving the Indian camp reeling. Jaiswal, who had made a solid 22 runs off 35 balls, was caught completely off guard by a delivery that was nothing short of unplayable.
Scott Boland Blitzkrieg Blinds Jaiswal
Boland, who has been in brilliant form this series, delivered a good-length ball around the off stump, with the perfect line and length to challenge the batter. The ball pitched just outside the middle and off stump, but it was the movement off the pitch that made it a deadly delivery. Angling in initially, it then veered away sharply off the surface, surprising Jaiswal, who was trying to defend it.
Rooted to his crease, Jaiswal was unable to adjust in time. His bat remained still as the ball squared him up completely. As he attempted to defend, the ball beat the outside edge of his bat and crashed into the top of the off stump, sending the bails flying.
India Faces Early Jitters
India, already struggling with a first-innings total of 185, now faces a tough task as they look to rally and regain control of the match. While Virat Kohli walked in on the pitch at 47-2, the Indian team will look to regain control as Boland dismissed both KL Rahul and Jaiswal with a peach. What seemed like a great start for India ahead of Tea, now appears to be shaky in front of Boland's blitzkrieg.
