In an intense display of on-field rivalry, Yashasvi Jaiswal has given a taste of his own medicine to Australia’s fiery debutant, Sam Konstas, during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. What started as a one-sided exchange has now turned into a classic case of "what goes around, comes around."
Earlier in the series, Konstas had cheekily teased Jaiswal, targeting his weaknesses on the field. In the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Konstas had been seen mocking the Indian opener, adding fuel to the competitive fire. However, Jaiswal was quick to respond with a fiery drive that hit Konstas who was positioned at the silly point.
Konstas-Jaiswal Rivalry Heats Up On Day 2
In the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Jaiswal was caught on the stump mic teasing Konstas in return, saying, "Kya ho gaya ab, shot nahi dikh rahe kya? Oye Kontas (Konstas). Shot nahi lag raha hai kya abhi?"
The 23-year-old Indian opener was clearly enjoying the moment as he sledged Konstas, playfully reminding him of the taunts he had faced earlier. Jaiswal’s words seemed to have added insult to injury, as Konstas was dismissed soon after with the former having the last laugh.
Jaiswal Takes The Catch As Siraj Dismisses Konstas
Mohammed Siraj bowled a full-length ball in the driving zone outside off tempting Konstas to go for a flashy drive. Unable to resist, Konstas went hard at it, only to get a thick outside edge on the ball that landed in the safe hands of Yashasvi Jaiswal at slips.
Sending Konstas back acted as a trigger for Australia's collapse as Travis Head followed soon. Steve Smith also fell prey to Prasidh Krishna at the end of 27.1 over as Australia was left reeling at 96-5. India likely dominated session 1 as at Lunch, Beau Webster and Alex Carey holds the crease with 101-5 on the board.
