In an exciting sequence of play during Day 2 of the fifth Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, KL Rahul produced a spectacular low catch to dismiss Mitchell Starc, leaving the Australian side teetering at 8 wickets down.

Australia, who had been struggling against India's potent bowling attack, found themselves in further trouble when Nitish Reddy, bowling around the wicket, banged one short into the wicket. The delivery pitched around off and drew Starc into a defensive shot.

As Starc hopped back to play it off the back foot, the ball took the edge of his blade from the shoulder. The ball flew wide of second slip, where KL Rahul, stationed at a wide second slip, dived forward to his left turning on his wicketkeeping instincts, and clasped the ball just inches off the ground, completing a brilliant catch.

The fielders erupted in celebration, but with Starc already walking off towards the pavilion, the umpires decided to check the fairness of the catch. After a brief review, the TV umpire confirmed that KL Rahul’s fingers were clearly underneath the ball, and the catch was deemed legitimate. Starc, visibly disappointed, was forced to continue his walk off the pitch, leaving Australia on the brink of collapse at 8 down.

India Dominates Aussies Early On Day 2

The dismissal was the second in two overs for Nitish Reddy, who had already claimed the wicket of Pat Cummins earlier. India continued their dominance after being bowled out for a mere 185 on Day 1, ensuring Australia had a tough task ahead in reply. At the time of writing, Prasidh Krishna bagged the set batter on the crease Beau Webster to leave the Aussies reeling at 166-9 and at Tea, the Aussies stand at 181-10 with India having a lead of 4 runs.
