Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews recorded a poor outing with the bat in the ongoing first Test against England at the iconic Old Trafford in Manchester. Coming at four, Mathews was dismissed for a five-ball duck as Chris Woakes emerged as his nemesis.

The incident occurred during the seventh over of Sri Lanka's innings when they were already rocked by the cheap dismissals of Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka.

After Woakes got Madushka's prized wicket, Mathews entered the middle to steady the ship alongside Kusal Mendis. However, he couldn't make an impact in the game, being dismissed for a duck.

From over the wicket, Woakes bowled a good length delivery which came back into Mathews sharply after pitching outside the off stump.

The batter was in two minds whether to play or leave the ball. He erred in his judgement and left the ball that struck him on his pads.

As soon as the Englishmen appealed for a leg before, the on-field umpire raised his finger, declaring him out.

Riding on the seamers' excellence, the hosts have reduced the visitors to 80/5 in 25 overs, with Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis batting in the middle.
