In a remarkable achievement, veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin attained a unique batting milestone following his exceptional outing in the ongoing first Test between India and Bangladesh at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Coming at eight, Ashwin struck a belligerent half-century to equal Kapil Dev on an elite list of Indian cricketers.

After Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl first, premier fast bowler Hasan Mahmud exploited the seam-friendly conditions to push India down on the mat. The right-arm pacer got rid of India's most renowned batters- Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill- before making the swashbuckling Rishabh Pant his fourth victim.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in the hosts' commendable fightback, stitching a priceless century stand with his partner-in-crime, Ravindra Jadeja, for the eighth wicket. The duo neutralised the Bangladesh bowlers with perfection, ensuring a competitive first innings total for India in the game.

R Ashwin brought up a well-deserved half-century in this process, registering his seventh fifty-plus score at number eight on home soil and equalling the legendary Kapil Dev's tally.

Ashwin's Tremendous Knock Helps India Salvage Their Pride

Ravichandran Ashwin's all-round attributes are second to none. The talismanic cricketer once again proved his mettle with the bat, slamming a flamboyant half-century on a pitch that had significant assistance for the bowlers.

After losing the valuable wicket of KL Rahul, India needed someone to play a game-breaking knock. Ashwin emerged as their saviour, forming a clinical partnership with Jadeja and bailing the hosts out of trouble. At the time of writing, India were 273 for six, with Jadeja and Ashwin batting on 50* and 74*, respectively.
