Hardik Pandya came to Ahmedabad – his home for the previous two seasons – to play his first match as Mumbai Indians’ full-time captain against Gujarat Titans in Match 5 of the IPL 2024. The talismanic all-rounder was almost humiliated on the very first over of the contest, only to be saved by their former skipper Rohit Sharma.
After winning the toss and asked Gujarat to bat, Hardik took the new ball to open the attack. He was face-to-face against Shubman Gill, the Titans’ brand-new skipper, and at once, he thought he would have got his counterpart after the ace batsman came down the track and missed the ball by an inch.
The ball went straight to Ishan Kishan’s hands, who appealed for caught behind straightaway. Even Hardik was interested, and was about to take a DRS before Rohit Sharma, placed at first slip, told Hardik not to signal the T.
Hardik closely looked at Rohit, and listened to him before going to back to his runup for the next delivery.
