In a significant development, Mumbai Indians have opted to bowl first in their IPL 2024 opener against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans have handed debut caps to Spencer Johnson, Umesh Yadav and Azmatullah Omarzai in this high-voltage clash.

At toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya stressed that they would bowl first, considering the potential dew factor later in the evening.

"We are gonna bowl first. Looks like a decent track, might come better in the evening as the dew arises. It feels good to be back, obviously, my birth place is Gujarat, lot of my success came in Gujarat. Grateful for the crowd and very grateful to the state, but my cricketing journey started with Mumbai so good to back with them. We had some practice games and nets too. The boys were excited to get out and give whatever they can in the game," Pandya said.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill lauded the Ahmedabad crowd for their support, expecting his troops to capitalise on the home advantage.

"Feels excited to lead (massive cheer from the crowd). I am excited to lead on a ground where I have had plenty of memorable memories. Good to have crowd backup. That's one of our strengths. The support has been tremendous. I was a week prior before this game, played a practice match," Gill said.

"We have three players making debuts for GT: Umesh Yadav, Spencer Johnson, and Azmatullah Omarzai. We have plenty of cricketers doing well in domestic cricket, doing well for India A. Sai Sudharsan has been doing well for India as well."
