When all the Sri Lankan bowlers were getting the hammering from the Indian batters, Matheesha Pathirana showed his class and picked up 4 wickets to give some respite to his side.

At one stage of the game, it looked like India were all set to cross the 230-run barrier, but Pathirana had some other plans with the ball. He started the wicket carnage with the all-important scalp of Suryakumar Yadav.

Pathirana uproots Pant's stumps

Suryakumar, the newly appointed skipper was at his imperial best, as he hammered a 22-ball fifty, but Pathirana trapped him on the front-leg. He followed it up with a searing yorker to dismiss Hardik Pandya, and then took the wicket of Riyan Parag, who was dismissed for just 7 runs.

However, in the context of the game, Pathirana's most important scalp was of Rishabh Pant. The southpaw struggled for runs initially, but once he got his eye in, there was no looking back. Had Pant stayed till the end, India would have ended with a score in excess of 230.

He bowled a length ball on the off-stump as Pant goes for a wild slog and loses his shape as the ball shatters the stumps. The Indian keeper-batter was eventually knocked over for 49 off 33 balls. In the end, India finished with a score of 213/7.
