Gill dismissed for 34 [X]
The Gautam Gambhir era kicked off in style Vs Sri Lanka in the first T20I at Pallekele. After being put into bat, the Indian openers were off to a flying start, and dented Sri Lanka's confidence.
Yashasvi Jaiswal started the carnage in the first over, as he took on Dilshan Madushanka with ease. The left-handed batter, who didn't play a single game at the T20 World Cup came out with a mission to attack the bowlers and he was successful in it.
Gill's breath-taking assault ended by Madushanka
Team India's new vice-captain, Shubman Gill, soon joined the fun and went toe-to-toe with his opening partner. It started raining fours and sixes as Gill went berserk and showed his range of hitting. In no time, India crossed 70 runs inside 6 overs, as Sri Lanka needed a game-changing over from somewhere.
That game-changing over was provided by Madushanka, who bowled a slower delivery and outfoxed the Indian batter. Madushanka rolled his arms as his length ball was pitched outside the off, and Gill was a touch early in his shot. He gets a top-edge as the fielder at mid-on took a well-judged catch, and dismissed the opener for 16-ball 34.
One brought the downfall of another as Jaiswal, who was batting with aggression followed his opening partner and departed back to the pavilion for 40.
