In match number 17 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, the St Lucia Kings delivered a commanding performance to register a crucial 26-run victory over the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. Despite losing the toss and being sent in to bat first, the Kings managed to defend their total of 152 runs with a disciplined bowling and secured their second position on the points table, while the Falcons slipped to fifth.

Chris Green Change The Game For Falcons

St Lucia Kings started their innings steadily opener Johnson Charles played a quickfire knock of 25 off 20 balls that provided the side a strong foundation. However, a double blow came in the next over as both skipper Faf du Plessis and all-rounder Roston Chase were dismissed by captain Chris Green.

Ackeem Auguste stepped in at this point and played a vital knock, ensuring the Kings stabilised their innings after the twin dismissals. Just when the Kings were looking to accelerate, rain interrupted play, and caused a significant delay.

However, the final over bowled by Nathan Pitman proved to be a turning point. South African all-rounder David Wiese went on a rampage and made sensational knock of 43* off 26 balls which included four sixes propelled the Kings to a final total of 152/8 in their 20 overs.

Antigua & Barbuda Falcons Falter in the Chase

In the chase, the Falcons started positively, with Kofi James started the chase on a positive note, however after his dismissal, it was a steady procession of wickets as the Falcons’ batting lineup collapsed under pressure.

Noor Ahmad Claims Wickets Justin Greaves

Justin Greaves failed to make significant contributions which also left the Falcons in dire straits. Greaves was bowled by Noor Ahmad in the fifth over, his ill-advised slog across the line missed the ball and crashed into the middle and leg stumps. The Falcons were reduced to 28/4, which left their hopes of a successful chase in tatters.

However, captain Chris Green and Shamar Springer fought back with a crucial partnership. The pair added 60 runs for the sixth wicket rebuilt the innings and offered some hope of a comeback. Despite their valiant efforts, Green and Springer’s partnership wasn’t enough to take the Falcons across the line. They fell short and finished their innings at 126/9 in their 20 overs.
