'Masood Should Punish...': Ex-Pakistan Cricketer Slams Batter For Lack Of Responsibility

Pakistan cricket has recently garnered significant attention, particularly after their unexpected 2-0 Test series loss against Bangladesh. This defeat marked a historic moment for Bangladesh as they secured their first-ever Test series win against Men in Green. The first Test saw Bangladesh triumph by 10 wickets and a commanding six-wicket victory in the second Test at Rawalpindi.

The defeat highlighted Pakistan's continued underperformance, especially in the batting department. One player who came under intense scrutiny was opener Abdullah Shafique, whose lacklustre performance drew widespread criticism.

Throughout the series, Shafique managed to score a mere 42 runs at an average of 10.50. His inability to anchor the innings and provide stability up front added to Pakistan's woes.

Basit Ali's Strong Opinion On Abdullah Shafique

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali was particularly vocal in his criticism of Shafique. He took issue with how Shafique was dismissed during the second innings of the first Test, where he was involved in a rebuilding effort alongside wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan.

According to basit Ali, Shafique’s departure led to a collapse that saw Pakistan lose the match by 10 wickets.

His shot was the reason Pakistan lost the match. After hitting 37, you are giving away your wicket with such a shot. Shan Masood should punish Shafique. This is Pakistan's team, not your local team. They played the wrong combination," Basit said on his YouTube channel.

Ali also further stated that Test captain Shan Masood should have taken a stronger stance against Shafique for his irresponsible dismissal, especially given the pivotal situation Pakistan found themselves in during the first Test.

Following the disappointing Test series, both Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood have now shifted their focus to domestic cricket, and are participating in the Champions One-Day Cup

How Can Pakistan Qualify For The WTC Final?

Following their disappointing series defeat to Bangladesh, Pakistan now turns its focus to the upcoming Test series against. This upcoming series is critical not only for Pakistan’s pride but also for their standing in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Pakistan's recent performances in the WTC have left them in a precarious position. After seven matches, they have managed just two wins, and their points percentage (PCT) stands at a low 19.05%.

This puts them in 8th place on the WTC table, ahead of only the West Indies, who are at the bottom. To stand any chance of reaching the WTC final, Pakistan must not only defeat England in their upcoming three-Test series but also win their remaining four matches.
