Former cricketer Basit Ali has urged Pakistan to replace Babar Azam with Mohammad Rizwan as their captain in white-ball cricket. Notably, Babar Azam hasn't had a successful captaincy stint since being reinstated into the role.

The Lahore-born batter resigned from leadership following Pakistan's disastrous performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. However, the PCB reappointed him as the white-ball captain after his successor Shaheen Afridi failed to bring desirable results.

However, Basit Ali feels Mohammad Rizwan is tactically more sound than Babar and should replace the stylish batter as Pakistan's white-ball captain. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the ex-cricketer heaped praise on Rizwan's on-field tactics and ability to read the playing conditions.

"The way Rizwan led the side, he proved there is no better skipper than him. He has shown it with his captaincy. He read the pitch; it is a big thing. Even Babar can't do that," Basit Ali stated.

He also reckoned that it's Pakistan's loss if Mohammad Rizwan isn't made captain, as his astute leadership can certainly take the Men in Green to new heights.

"I am not even talking about Shan. If you don't make him captain at this time, then it is a loss for Pakistan. This is the best time you should make Rizwan the captain," Basit Ali added.

Rizwan Leads Markhors To Their Second Successive Win In Champions Cup

Mohammad Rizwan has been outstanding as a captain in the ongoing Champions One Day Cup, leading the Markhors to two consecutive wins. After defeating the Panthers by a whopping 160-run margin, the Markhors swatted aside the Stallions in their last game to claim the top spot in the points table. Although Rizwan managed only 33 runs with the bat, his smart field placements and clever bowling changes paved the way for his side's clinical win.
