On the last two Australian tours, Rishabh Pant was one of India's best batter and was pivotal in the team's marathon win at the Gabba Test match. However, in the ongoing tour, things have not gone according to the plan and the star player is struggling for runs.

He is getting starts on multiple occasions, but hasn't delivered the goods in the Test series. In the Boxing-Day Test match at the MCG, Pant came into bat at a precarious situation, and looked good for his cute 20s, but the maveric batter went for an unnecessary hoick and threw his wicket away to push his side on the back-foot.

It has been 4 Tests and the star keeper is yet to play that marathon knock he is known for. The final Test of the series will be played at SCG, and don't be surprised if captain Rohit Sharma decides to exclude him and give Dhruv Jurel a go. Here are 3 key reasons for Rohit to drop Pant.

3) Hasn't scored anything significant in the series

37, 1, 21, 28, 9, and 28, these have been Rishabh Pant's scores in the ongoing Test series. In total, he has only accumulated 96 runs in 6 innings and has looked a pale shadow of his former self.

With Pant, you expect him to create the impact with the bat at number 6 and 7, but the maveric keeper has failed to done anything significant in the ongoing tour and looks down in confidence.

2) Melbourne's unnecessary shot put the team in jeopardy

With Pant you know he is going to play risky shots to score runs on the board, however, that wasn't required in the ongoing Test match at the MCG. The team was 191/5 when Pant decided to play a reckless shot and it costed him his wicket.

Even the commentators lashed out at him and the dressing room looked unhappy. At that stage, he was the team's most experienced batter and should have played with a bit more responsibility. Instead, his rash shot led to India's 6th wicket which put the team in a lot of pressure.

1) Pant's faulty technique has been found out in the series

Pant may not be the most technically gifted batter in the side, but he has always found ways to score crucial runs for Team India. However, in this series, the Aussie bowlers have come up with their plans to counter him.

They try and bowl closer to the off-stump from around the wicket and it doesn't allow Pant to free his arms. Sometimes he gets those outside-edge and when things are not working, he plays rash shots to give his wickets.

Captain Pat Cummins has perfectly devised the plan and it has been successful as the skipper himself has dismissed him 3 times in the series. So, maybe time has come to give him a rest and try out Dhruv Jurel.
