Naveen-ul-Haq likes to be in the spotlight, and this seems unlikely to change anytime soon. The 24-year-old made headlines yet again on Wednesday during Afghanistan’s World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand in Chennai.
Coming to bat at No. 10, Naveen went for a reverse sweep immediately after coming to the crease. Despite the fact that Afghanistan were on the verge of a big-margin defeat, he did not hesitate before playing a wild shot.
The result, as expected, was not a good one for him, as Mitchell Santner, one of the sharpest minds in the sport currently, was bowling from another end. It was a tossed-up delivery, and thus, Naveen could only get a big top edge.
The ball went straight to Mark Chapman, who made no mistake before catching it at short third region.
In the process, Naveen departed for a golden duck.

Chasing 289, Afghanistan folded for a paltry 139 in just 34.4 overs, with Santner taking as many as three wickets. Glenn Phillips, who scored 71 off just 80 balls to help New Zealand recover from 110/4 initially, was fittingly named the Player of the Match.
