No matter where he plays, Naveen-ul-Haq has the ability to take breakthroughs when his teams are most needed. The Afghanistani paceman delivered yet again on Wednesday (October 18) during their World Cup 2023 clash against New Zealand in Chennai.

After being put into bat, New Zealand recovered from 110/4 and reached 254 without any other damage against Afghanistan. Naveen-ul-Haq came to bowl the 48th over of the innings, and dismissed both well-set batters Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham.

More significantly, the manner in which Naveen cleaned up Latham garnered more attention.

It all happened when Latham, batting on 68 off 74 balls, went for a ramp shot against Naveen. The 24-year-old, however, was ready for it and bowled an off-pace delivery targeting the stumps. Latham failed to connect the ball altogether, and in the process, the ball went on to break the stumps.

New Zealand, meanwhile, closed the innings on 288/6, with Glenn Phillips top-scoring with 80-ball 71. Mark Chapman played a breezy cameo, making 25* off just 12 balls, whereas Naveen finished with figures of 8-0-48-2.
