In an entertaining moment of the inaugural WPL 2024 season game between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, Aussie veteran Meg Lanning unleashed her inner beast to slam a scintillating maximum over the ropes and register the first six of the brand new WPL season.

The WPL 2024 season kicked off with a clash of titans as defending champions Mumbai Indians were fielded against last year's runners-up Delhi Capitals at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru earlier today.

After the conclusion of an extravagant opening ceremony, Indian promising talent Shafali Verma stepped out to bat with skipper Meg Lanning.

However, in a contrasting turn of events, Chinnaswamy's  wicket generated early movement off the pitch, and Shabnim Ismail used it to her advantage to draw the first blood. She removed Shafali Verma in an absolute cracker delivery to put early pressure on DC.

However, captain Meg Lanning channeled her experience to rebuild the Capitals' innings from scratch. She took her chances mindfully and kept the scoreboard ticking with Alice Capsey.

Meanwhile, in the ninth over of the first inning, Amelia Kerr bowled a tossed-up delivery outside the off-stump line. Lanning got under it and slammed it over the ropes long-on for a captivating maximum. The ball just managed to clear the boundary, and Meg registered the first six of the brand-new WPL season.

Not only that, but with that six, Meg Lanning brought up a 50-run partnership with Alice Capsey and rescued Delhi Capitals from a concerning situation.

That being said, Meg Lanning's aggressive intent and attacking mindset set the tone for the Capitals' innings and put pressure on the MI bowlers to come up with a response. Her ability to find the boundary with ease showcased her dominance as a top-order batter and reaffirmed her status as one of the premier players in women's cricket.
