Lockie Ferguson dismantled Seattle Orcas’ batting line-up with a key four-wicket haul in match number eight of the ongoing MLC 2024 season. Being tasked to bowl inside the opening powerplay by Washington Freedom captain Steve Smith, Ferguson had Ryan Rickelton hold out at mid-off before the New Zealand quick cleaned up Quinton de Kock with sheer pace.

Batting first, Seattle Orcas raced to 34-1 from four overs despite losing opening batter Nauman Anwar early in the innings. Against the run of play, New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson struck back for the Washington Freedom by dismissing a well-set Ryan Rickelton in the final powerplay over.

Quinton de Kock, who attempted to thwack Ferguson on to his leg-side in a bid to up the run-scoring ante, also had his off-stump clipped by the speedster as the Orcas slipped to 44-3 in 7.5 overs.

Lockie Ferguson’s timely breakthrough prevented Quinton de Kock from flourishing further after the Proteas legend had moved to 24 runs from just 18 deliveries.

In one of his return spells, the New Zealand international accounted for Imad Wasim and Hammad Azam in quick succession to finish with figures of 4-26 from four overs. His four-over act, coupled with Saurabh Netravalkar’s three-fer helped the Washington Freedom envelop Seattle Orcas for just 124.

In response, Washington Freedom number three Rachin Ravindra charted 26 runs at the top before unbeaten Lahiru Milantha and Obus Pienaar headlined rest of the run-chase with five wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Lockie Ferguson was fittingly declared the ‘Player of the Match’ as the Washington Freedom jumped to the top of the MLC 2024 points table.
