Hobart Hurricanes opener Lizelle Lee hammered down her fifth WBBL century, and the second in succession, through the course of her 103-run blitzkrieg against Adelaide Strikers at the Bellerive Oval on November 13. Clattering 13 boundaries and four sixes in the process, Lee smeared 103 runs from just 59 deliveries to fuel Hurricanes’ 191-run total after getting invited to bat first.

As it happened, it took a bizarre runout to halt Lizelle Lee’s WBBL rampage during the 15th over of the innings.

Lizelle Lee shattered numerous batting records by tonking an unbeaten 150* from 75 balls against Perth Scorchers at the SCG on November 10. A couple of days later, Lee once again launched an all-out batting assault, this time brandishing her bat at Adelaide Strikers bowlers for a fresh century at the Bellerive Oval.

After reaching 103 from 59 balls, her innings got cut short courtesy of a bizarre and unfortunate runout orchestrated by Strikers’ off-spinner Jemma Barsby.

The incident unfolded during the 15th over of the Hobart Hurricanes innings when a straight hit from Nicola Carey brushed Barsby’s fingertips to crash on to the stumps at the non-striker’s end, where Lee was found a few inches short outside her crease.

Hobart Hurricanes ended up hauling 191-2 from 20 overs. Apart from Lizelle Lee’s 103-run blitzkrieg, Nicola Carey also belted an unbeaten 64 from 46 balls during an attacking slog-overs partnership with captain Elyse Villani (23* off 14).

Lee’s hundred, meanwhile, marked her fifth WBBL ton and the second in succession this 2024 season. The senior South African batter also has an international T20 century to her name, to go along with three ODI hundreds.

As of now, she is leading the run-scoring charts of the WBBL 2024 season with 324 runs from just seven innings at an astonishing batting average of 54.
