Raina reveals Rohit's potential replacement [Source: @DrShivasis/X, @AbhiroyTweets/X]
Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has urged India to use Dhruv Jurel as Rohit Sharma's replacement at the top order if the Indian captain misses the first Test of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. Notably, India's Test skipper Rohit Sharma might skip the series opener due to personal reasons. In such a scenario, the Indian management is considering picking either KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran as Yashasvi Jaiswal's opening partner.
Raina Proposes Jurel's Name As India Continue Searching For Rohit's Replacement
Meanwhile, former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Suresh Raina believes Dhruv Jurel should get the nod ahead of KL Rahul due to his batting heroics for India-A in the recently held unofficial Test matches against Australia-A.
Speaking to TOI, Raina stated that India might look at Jurel as Rohit's potential replacement, considering his technique and temperament.
He mentioned that with KL Rahul struggling with form, the visitors should seriously think twice before assigning him an important role at the top order.
"Dhruv Jurel can be the X-factor that India are looking for in Australia. You can try him in the first Test. I know when Rohit Sharma comes back, he will open but why not give a chance to a youngster who has done really well," Raina said.
"India A lost four wickets in the first 2-3 overs. The Kookaburra ball stays new (for a while). Jurel showed patience. His defensive technique is very solid. When he played aggressively, he came up with a couple of good shots. I think they should consider him as an opener when Rohit is not there. KL Rahul is also an option, but as you said, he is not in form. That is something Bumrah (stand-in captain for Perth if Rohit is unavailable) will have to think about," he added.
Dhruv Jurel's Exceptional Outing vs Australia A
Hailed for his grit and stoic batting technique, Dhruv Jurel was the lone shining light from India-A's batting perspective, amassing two consecutive hard-fought fifties against Australia-A. The keeper-batter's valiant batting display in the practice game might earn him a place in India's playing XI for the Perth Test.
