It would have been beyond Dean Elgar's wildest dreams for him to bat twice in the same day in his last international match. Although the veteran South African batter did not have a major impact on his special day, his opponents acknowledged and praised him for his accomplishments throughout his remarkable career.

After falling for 4 in the first innings, Elgar made 12 off 28 balls in his final knock of his international career. Mukesh Kumar was the man who removed him, and Virat Kohli was the one who took a sharp catch at first slip to end the 36-year-old’s stay.

Immediately after, Kohli gave a flying kiss to Anushka Sharma, who was at the stands at Newlands, Cape Town, on Wednesday (January 3) during India's second Test in South Africa. Then the ace batter went straight to Elgar to give him a warm hug, and Jasprit Bumrah followed him to do the same.

As Elgar returned to the pavilion, he received a rousing round of applause from the Indian players and support personnel.
