In the game of cricket, unfortunate turns of events are nothing new, but with the use of technology, one can expect errors at the grandest stages to be less likely. However, the way a dismissal happened on Wednesday during Day 1 of the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) left many people taken aback.

It all started when Mitchell Marsh nicked Shan Masood behind the slip cordon to leave Pakistan on 5/87. However, the replay showed Marsh overstepped before releasing the wicket delivery, and hence, the Pakistan captain got a lifeline. 10 balls later, Marsh got his man, and this time around, the reply confirmed it was a legal delivery, which dismissed Masood in a similar manner.

Then the twist came. While nobody initially noticed very clearly on the big screen during the replay, netizens on social media found out the third umpire saw a wrong clip of the delivery. It was all confirmed as the replay showed Mohammad Rizwan, who was partnering with Masood at that point, was not at the non-strikers’ end. Instead, Masood himself was there.
