On Friday, September 29, Kane Williamson made his professional cricket comeback, nearly six months after he suffered a terrible injury during the opening stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

The talismanic batsman made a delightful return, slamming eight scintillating fours in a flamboyant 50-ball 54 before deciding to retire hurt against Pakistan in their World Cup warm-up clash at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

The highlight of Williamson’s knock was the way he punished Haris Rauf during the seventh over of New Zealand’s innings. Against the ace fast bowler, the Kiwi skipper hit three fours in the space of six deliveries, all of which were the result of exquisite timing.

The first one that Williamson hit in that over was a slash over backward point. Then, a ball later, he stood tall and punched between cover and cover-point for another four. To finish things off in style, he punched hard between point and cover-point, making a hat-trick of boundaries.

It is important to note that Williamson won't be playing New Zealand's opening World Cup game against England, taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. The Kiwi skipper is yet to be fully fit to take part in a full 50-over game.

At the time of writing, New Zealand, chasing 346 against Pakistan, are on 230/4 after 32 overs.
