Bangladesh fans were delighted to see Litton Das -- one of their most adored players -- getting back to his good old form on Friday (September 29) during their World Cup warm-up fixture against New Zealand.
The stylish wicket-keeper batsman scored a fine half-century after coming to chase 264. He seemed to be on a mission to get to three-digit mark, but an excellent fielding effort from Matheesha Pathirana did not allow him to get going in the middle.
Bangladesh got off to a perfect start against the Lankan Lions, with Tanzid Hasan and Litton both scoring 60+ runs to forge a 130-plus opening-wicket stand. Sri Lanka required something spectacular to get a breakthrough, and it eventually came during the 21st over of Bangladesh’s innings.
After watching a tossed-up delivery from Dushan Hemantha, Litton went for a slog sweep. However, he did not get the timing right, as the ball hit the toe end of his bat. Pathirana, placed at deep square leg, moved a little before completing a sharp low catch. As a result, Litton had to leave the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati after a fine 56-ball 61, laced with 10 fours.
At the time of writing, Bangladesh have reached 168/1 in 26 overs, requiring 96 runs to register a memorable victory over their Asian rivals.
