Senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi became Afghanistan’s fourth casualty of the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal against South Africa at Trinidad. Batting at number five and arriving to the crease at 20-3 in the fourth over of the match, the cricketer failed to lead his team to recovery after he lost his off-stump to a peach from Kagiso Rabada.

Kagiso Rabada Exposes Mohammad Nabi’s Technique

Mohammad Nabi failed to score a run against South Africa’s new-ball attack after arriving to the crease in just the fourth over of the innings after the dismissal of in-form opening batter Ibrahim Zadran. After receiving a couple of deliveries outside his off stump, Nabi received an in-swinging pearler from Kagiso Rabada that nipped sharply off the seam to shatter the stumps.

Mohammad Nabi’s dismissal further worsened Afghanistan’s top-order troubles in their high-octane semifinal showdown as they slipped to 20-4 in 3.4 overs. Rabada, meanwhile pocketed his second wicket of the evening after having cleaned up Ibrahim Zadran off his first ball of the match earlier in the same over.

Prior to the match, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first. High on confidence after their emphatic wins over Australia and Bangladesh; Afghanistan’s insurgent batting line-up was decimated by South Africa’s new-ball attack on a tough Trinidad surface.

At the end of the opening powerplay, Rashid Khan and co. had lost five of its top six batters at the expense of just 28 runs, as Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada made the new-ball swing for the Proteas.
