In the first semi-final of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 between South Africa and Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Stadium, Afghanistan's opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed in the first over.

Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first, but Afghanistan faced an early setback when Marco Jansen provided the breakthrough for South Africa.

On the last ball of the first over, Jansen bowled a full-length delivery outside off stump. Gurbaz, attempted a front foot drive, edged the ball to second slip where Reeza Hendricks took a good catch. Gurbaz departed without scoring, that marked a crucial early wicket for South Africa.

Afghanistan find themselves in deep trouble, as they failed to make an important mark in this must-win semi-final match. Two early wickets have put Afghanistan on the back foot. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen have run through the Afghan batting line-up, leaving the Asian team struggling at 23/5 in 5 overs.
