England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler has been in rich form in The Hundred 2023 competition while playing for Manchester Originals. Buttler, the leading scorer in the tournament with 142 runs from three matches, got out in the most bizarre manner in the Originals' game against Birmingham Phoenix on Monday.

The Manchester skipper smoked a 33-ball 43 before getting run out on the non-striker's end in a strange fashion. The Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper put in a desperate dive while running for a quick single on the 67th delivery.

Unfortunately for Buttler, the bat lifted in the air just inches away from the crease as Moeen Ali's direct throw knocked over the stumps.

The TV umpire adjudged Buttler out, much to the explosive opener's disappointment.

The MCC law 38.1 clearly states that "Either batter is out Run out if, at any time while the ball is in play, he is out of his ground and his wicket is fairly broken by the action of a fielder."

About the match, Buttler's quickfire 43 helped the Originals post 160 runs, with Usama Mir playing a cameo of an unbeaten 32. In reply, Phoenix managed just 111 runs, as Richard Gleeson, Joshua Little, Usama Mir, and Tom Hartley shared nine wickets between them and ensured Manchester's 49-run win.

This win put the Originals second in the point table, and they will face Oval Invincibles in their next game on Wednesday.
