Indian Cricket Team is currently engaged in a five-match T20I series in West Indies against the hosts and find themselves down 0-2 after losing the second encounter on Sunday in a close affair.

Rahul Dravid and Co. opted to rest senior players and hand young and upcoming talent a chance to shine, which sadly has not been the case so far. Apart from Tilak Varma, who has looked apart, the likes of Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, and Suryakumar Yadav have been a shadow of their best.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Robin Uthappa, speaking after India's two-wicket loss on Sunday, explained what is holding back Indian batters, who are superstars in their own rights.

As said to Jio Cinema, the former India batter explained that lack of exposure in overseas T20 leagues is one of the reasons behind India's empty ICC trophy cabinet since 2013.

Here's what Uthappa said

"Well, yeah, I certainly think the exposure at the IPL and I think it is a trick that India misses out, especially in the ICC tournaments, because we don't play any other leagues in any other part of the world."

The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) has forbidden Indian players domestic or international to feature in any T20 overseas league.

Uthappa, who won the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 with India, explained that other players have taken advantage of IPL while India-based players struggle to gauge conditions alien to them.

"And I think yes, it does well to protect the IPL as an entity, but I think it costs us at the ICC level. And I think those are the advantages that the accomplished players have against our Indian bowlers when they play them in bilateral or they play against them in ICC tournament. They have had so much exposure against them in the nets and playing against them in the IPL for years 3,4,5,6 years. So you already know what the bowler does, you already know what the batter does. So you have a lot of information."

With the series on the line, India will play West Indies in the third T20I on Tuesday, with the Rovman Powell-captained XI leading 2-0.
