In Match 17 of SA20 2025, James Neesham once again proved why he is an absolute superstar in the field. The Pretoria Capitals’ all-rounder pulled off a sensational one-handed screamer to send Liam Dawson packing.

Neesham's Ponting-Like Grab Stunned Everyone In SA20 Clash

Jimmy Neesham’s effort came at a crucial moment in the final over when Dawson was threatening to cut loose. Having smashed two consecutive sixes off Eathan Bosch, Dawson was in the mood to cause some damage.

Bosch bowled a slower ball outside off, and Dawson went for another big hit. But little did he know Neesham had other plans. Sprinting to his right at extra cover, Neesham stuck out his hand and plucked the ball mid-flight like it was the easiest thing in the world.

The crowd erupted, social media went wild, but Neesham reacted as if it was just another day at the office. No over-the-top celebration, just a casual shrug. It was a moment of brilliance that brought back memories of Ricky Ponting’s iconic one-handed grab in the IPL for Mumbai Indians.

Sunrisers Shine Despite Neesham’s Brilliance

While Neesham’s catch grabbed the headlines, it was Sunrisers Eastern Cape who walked away with the win. After being put into bat, the Sunrisers put up a modest 149/7 runs, thanks to their skipper Aiden Markram’s composed 68 off 55 balls. Markram was all class, smashing five boundaries and two sixes to anchor the innings.

Dawson, too, made his presence felt with a handy 25 and three wickets, proving to be a key contributor. Marco Jansen, however, was the real wrecker-in-chief with the ball. The lanky pacer bagged four wickets, leaving the Capitals in tatters and defending the target with ease.

Pretoria’s Batting Blues

Chasing 151 should’ve been straightforward for a side like Pretoria Capitals, but their batters just didn’t turn up. A flurry of wickets and a lack of partnerships saw them fold for 97, handing the Sunrisers a commanding 52-run win.
