Shreyas Iyer has been in fantastic form recently, and he showed it once again during a Ranji Trophy Elite match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy. Coming in at No. 5 after Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 12 runs off 17 balls, Iyer made an immediate impact. On the very first ball he faced, he smashed a massive six, keeping the bowlers under pressure.

It happened in the 13th over of Mumbai’s first innings when Umar Nazir Mir bowled a fullish delivery on the off-stump. Shreyas read the ball perfectly, stepped forward calmly, and sent it soaring over long-off for six.

Mumbai Batters Struggle Against J&K

Earlier in the match, Mumbai’s decision to bat first after winning the toss didn’t go as planned. The team struggled right from the start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma getting out cheaply for just 5 and 3 runs, respectively. Umar Nazir Mir played a crucial role for Jammu & Kashmir, dismissing Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Tamore to keep Mumbai on the back foot.

Though Shreyas showed a glimpse of his talent with that first-ball six, he too fell to Umar Nazir Mir after scoring just 11 runs. Umar continued his brilliant spell, picking up four wickets in the innings.

At the time of writing, Mumbai’s batting lineup is in deep trouble, with the team reeling at 67-7 in 19.5 overs.
