In the Ranji Trophy Elite Group match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had a disappointing start to his domestic season. This match marked Jaiswal's return to the domestic circuit after India’s struggles during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The 23-year-old opener walked out to bat alongside Indian captain Rohit Sharma after Mumbai opted to bat first. However, things didn’t go as planned for Mumbai. Jaiswal was dismissed early, scoring just 5 runs off 8 deliveries.
His dismissal came in the 3rd over when Jammu & Kashmir’s pacer Auqib Nabi struck. Nabi trapped Jaiswal leg-before-wicket (LBW) with a good-length delivery, handing the opposition an early breakthrough.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Impressive First-Class Record
Despite this setback, Jaiswal’s first-class cricket stats speak volumes about his potential. In 35 innings, he has amassed 3,682 runs, including 13 centuries and 12 half-centuries, at an impressive average of 62.40. However, this wasn’t his day, as he fell cheaply in his first outing of the season.
Mumbai’s troubles didn’t end with Jaiswal’s departure. Indian captain Rohit Sharma also failed to make an impact, scoring just 3 runs before being dismissed by Jammu & Kashmir’s Umar Nazir in the first session.
Mumbai entered the match third in the Elite A Group with 22 points, secured from three wins in five games. On the other hand, Jammu & Kashmir are unbeaten this season and hold the second spot in the group. They recently claimed a four-wicket victory against Tripura, showcasing their strong form.
At the time of writing, Mumbai are struggling at 14-2 in 8 overs, with experienced batter Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Tamore trying to stabilise the innings.
