Shubman Gill falls for a single run vs NZ (Source: X.com/@viratgoback)
The third and final Test has again exposed India's batting woes as the collapse has begun. New Zealand's Ajaz Patel had the last laugh after removing Shubman Gill for a low score at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
Gill, who batted brilliantly in the first innings, missed out on a well-deserved century after being dismissed for 90 runs. He would have hoped to slam something significant in the second innings, too; unfortunately, he departed for a single run in the all-important clash.
In the 4th over itself, spinner Ajaz Patel unleashed an arm ball attacking the off stump. Gill came forward but failed to pick up the variation as he shouldered his arms to the delivery. Unfortunately, he did not cover his off-stump and heard the death rattle of the ball hitting the off-stump. The entire Mumbai crowd was silenced, with fans and Gill confused.
Shubman Gill Departs, Exposes India's Batting Troubles
India Need 100 Runs, Kiwis Need 5 wickets
Gill's poor judgement cost India a big wicket and marked the beginning of the disintegration of the Indian team, as they lost three wickets consecutively after this wicket. India lost Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan for a single run, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal, troubled by Glenn Phillips, and departed for five runs.
Troubles have only worsened for India as they now need 100 runs to win this clash and have already lost five wickets. Both, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja are out in the middle with India at 47/5.
