Rohit dismissed cheaply [Source: JioCinema/Screengrab]
Another innings and another failure for the India captain, Rohit Sharma as he played a reckless shot to throw his wicket away in the second innings run chase at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday. India needed a solid start, chasing 147 runs, but that didn't happen as Matt Henry got the better of Rohit once again.
The Kiwi bowlers didn't have a big total to defend but they came out with a perfect gameplan to dismiss the Indian batters. When Rohit Sharma came out to bat, he danced down the track and smashed a boundary to start his innings.
This is when captain Tom Latham showed his tactical brilliance as he placed a fielder just between long-on and mid-on and had two fielders in the deep as he provoked Rohit to play his favourite pull shot.
Matt Henry bowled a back of a length ball as Rohit goes for the pull shot and miscues it and the fielder at mid-wicket takes a simple catch to end Rohit's stay at the crease. There was no need for the skipper to play that reckless shot, but he listened to his instincts and it proved him wrong.
India lose Gill, Kohli as 147 looks difficult to achieve
Just when you thought a target of 147 looked easy, the Kiwis showed their class and have also scalped the big wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Ajaz Patel was the chief destroyer once again as he picked up the wickets of both the players.
While Gill was knocked over by Ajaz Patel, Kohli's catch was taken by Daryl Mitchell as the India great departed for just 1.
With 4 down, India need a miracle to chase a small total down as Rishabh Pant will look to steer India home.
