Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has seemingly had a change of heart as he praised Ravindra Jadeja for his performance in the third Test match between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium.
Jadeja's Outstanding Spell Against New Zealand
Jadeja looked in brilliant form with the ball as he spit fire over the Kiwi batters, taking crucial wicket of Will Young, Glenn Phillips and many more to complete his 14th five wicket haul in Tests for India. His performance along with Washington Sundar helped India restrict the visitors for a score of 235 runs and get to batting right on Day 1.
In lieu to his excellence, Manjrekar tweeted on X, hailing the Indian all-rounder by calling him his favourite cricketer and said: "Over the moon for my favorite cricketer, Jadeja. A fifer! He needed that! And so did the team."
Manjrekar And Jadeja's Heated Exchange In 2019
For some context, Ravindra Jadeja and Sanjay Manjrekar have had a contentious history that ignited during the 2019 World Cup when Manjrekar called Jadeja a “bits and pieces” cricketer.
This comment drew widespread backlash from fans and a sharp response from Jadeja, who stated, “Learn to respect people who have achieved. I have heard enough of your verbal diarrhea.” Their rivalry escalated with numerous exchanges on social media. However, during the Asia Cup last year, Manjrekar took the initiative to mend fences.
Jadeja Goes Past Ishant And Zaheer
In his 77th Test match, Ravindra Jadeja surpassed the wicket tally of legendary Indian fast bowlers Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma. While Ishant and Zaheer took 105 and 92 Tests to achieve 311 wickets, Jadeja reached this milestone significantly faster.
