India are in a strong position to win the third Test Vs New Zealand at Wankhede and the star of the first innings, Shubman Gill has the gameplan ready for the Indian batters. New Zealand lead by 143 runs and India will look to bundled them around a lead in the region of 150.
No team has ever chased a total of more than 200-runs at the Wankhede and the Indian batters are aware of it, and hence, every delivery on the morning of Day 3 becomes important for them. The match has shaped up really well and has been a roller coaster ride. Until the end of Day 1, the Kiwis had the upper hand, however, by the time Day 2 ended, India were in a dominant position.
The Test match will get over by Sunday and ahead of the day, Shubman Gill has revealed how India can beat the Kiwis to salvage some pride.
“It’s all about one good partnership. When you are chasing a total which is around 150-160, if you have one good partnership of 70-80 runs, the match is done and dusted," he said at the post-match presser.
“That is what the conversation will be among the batters, to have one good partnership. For the fielding team, once there is a 70-80 run partnership when you are chasing 150, the body language of the opposition also drops," he said.
Gill was crucial in India's resurrection
By the end of Day 1, India had lost 4 quick wickets and looked in a precarious situation before Shubman Gill alongside Rishabh Pant forged a crucial partnership. The duo played an attacking brand of cricket and pushed the visitors on the back-foot.
However, once Pant departed, wickets started to fall at regular interval as Gill stood like a lone warrior. He was a vital cog in India's resurrection as India's number 3 scored a gritty 90 and helped India break the deficit.
