South Africa’s ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis just reminded everyone why he’s called the next big thing. Playing for the New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10, Brevis lit up the match against UP Nawabs with a shot that left everyone speechless.
Brevis Pulls Off A Monster No-Look Six
The moment came in the fourth over, and it was something special. Facing leggie Adil Rashid, Dewald Brevis went down on one knee, barely looked at the ball, and absolutely smashed a slog sweep.
The ball flew 107 meters over deep mid-wicket and he didn’t even bother watching it. The crowd, the commentators, and probably even the bowler were left in awe.
Brevis was in the mood, no doubt about it. He scored a quick 33 off just 16 balls, smashing three sixes and a four. Unfortunately, his fireworks didn’t last long. Trying to go big again, he mistimed a shot, and Adil Rashid caught him off Tymal Mills’ bowling. The Strikers needed someone to anchor the innings after his exit, but things didn’t go their way.
Kieron Pollard, known for his big-hitting, had a rare off-day. He struggled to score, managing an unbeaten 12 off 21 balls. The Strikers limped to 74/6 in their 10 overs, leaving their bowlers with next to nothing to defend.
Nawabs Make Light Work of the Chase
Chasing 75 was never going to be tough for the Nawabs, and they made sure there was no drama. Captain Rahmanullah Gurbaz led from the front by scoring an unbeaten 31 off 21 balls as the Nawabs cruised to victory in just 6.1 overs with nine wickets in hand.
Brevis Goes Unsold at IPL Auction
Despite his talent, Brevis went unsold at the recent IPL 2025 auction. The youngster, who took the 2022 U19 World Cup by storm, hasn’t been able to convert his potential into consistent performances. He smashed 506 runs in that tournament, breaking Shikhar Dhawan’s record, and earned a spot with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 for ₹3 crore. But since then, thing haven’t gone his way.
Brevis played seven games in 2022 and scored 161 runs. He didn’t get a single game in 2023 and only played three in 2024. Those numbers don’t scream reliability, which probably explains why teams were hesitant to bid for the South African prodigy this year.
