Australia’s ageing warhorse David Warner swatted Akeal Hosein with a reverse hit for a huge six to get off the mark against West Indies. Turning up for his country in the second T20I of their series, the cricketer scored 22 runs in all before his threatening stay at the crease was curtailed by Romario Shepherd.

The dashing Australian opener, who recently made his exit from Tests and ODIs, also clubbed a match-winning 70 against West Indies in the series-opening first T20I at Hobart earlier this week.

After putting Australia to bat, West Indies skipper Rovman Powell employed leading spinner Akeal Hosein with the new-ball for the second time in succession this series. The move did not work out for the visitors as David Warner belted the West Indies spinner with a bold reverse-hit for a six in just the second ball of the match.

Warner, who bludgeoned a 36-ball 70 a couple of days ago at Hobart, got off the mark with his audacious stroke and dispatched the following delivery for another boundary to race to 10* from just three balls.

David Warner lost opening partner Josh Inglis and stand-in captain Mitchell Marsh both within the powerplay as Australia slumped to 57-2. In the seventh over of the innings, the left-handed opener was himself holed out by Sherfane Rutherford after he failed to read Romario Shepherd’s slower off-cutter.

Warner blasted three boundaries and a six in his 19-ball 22 at the Adelaide Oval. Shortly after the ongoing series against West Indies, the 37-year-old will turn up for the Delhi Capitals franchise in the forthcoming IPL 2024 season.
