The Ranji Trophy maintains its status as India's premier First-Class cricket tournament, serving as a launching pad for up-and-coming players to impress selectors and earn call-ups to the senior national side.

However, former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary expressed his concerns with the organisation of the Ranji Trophy, highlighting multiple hurdles hindering the success of the esteemed tournament in India.

The Bengal cricketer took to X [Formerly Twitter] and has asked for the tournament to be scrapped from the next season. However, he did not state the specific reason for providing such a suggestion on social media.

Here’s what Tiwary wrote on X:

“Ranji trophy should be scrapped from the calendar from the next season onwards. So many things going wrong in the tournament. So many things need to be looked into in order to save this prestigious tournament which has a rich history. It's losing its charm and importance. Absolutely frustrated.”

Additionally, Tiwary took to Facebook Live to shed light on specific concerns with the Ranji Trophy. He also announced his decision to wrap up his Ranji career by the season's end.

Manoj Tiwary criticised the subpar dressing room amenities at the St. Xavier's College Ground in Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram, where Bengal faced Kerala in an Elite Group B match.

Here’s what Tiwary said on his Facebook live:

"We are playing Kerala in a ground, not a stadium despite there being one built years ago, we are being asked to play in a ground on the outskirts of the State. The dressing rooms are such that you cannot even strategise properly since our dressing room and the opposite dressing room are so close to each other that you can hear what the others are saying. There is no privacy. I hope that this is looked into in the future."

However, he refrained from disclosing the actual reason behind the tweet urging the elimination of the Ranji Trophy because of the BCCI’s code of conduct.
