On Day 3 of the 1st match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the star India batter KL Rahul departed after scoring 37 off 111 balls. Playing for Team A, Rahul had shown patience and resolve, but his innings came to an end when Washington Sundar, the all-rounder for India B, bowled him out in the 49th over of India A’s first innings.
The dismissal was a moment of brilliance from Sundar, as he delivered a tossed-up ball on off-stump. Rahul, attempting a paddle-sweep, was deceived by the sharp dip and turn. The ball slipped past his bat and crashed into the leg stump.
As Rahul walked off shaking his head in disappointment, Washington Sundar’s strike put India B back in control of the game.
India A's Struggle In Response
Earlier, India A began their innings after restricting India B, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, to 321 runs. Rahul’s teammates, Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal, failed to make a significant impact, with Gill scoring 25 and Agarwal 36. Rahul, who had scored 23 runs by the end of Day 2, resumed play on Day 3, only to be dismissed for 37.
Despite India A's struggles, Riyan Parag contributed a valuable 27 off 49 balls, showing glimpses of brilliance with some exquisite drives. However, it was Sundar’s breakthrough that defined the day's play.
Day 2 Recap: India B’s Strong Start
On Day 2, India B have had posted a total of 321 runs, thanks to a record-breaking partnership between Musheer Khan (181) and Navdeep Saini (56). The duo added 205 runs for the 8th wicket, setting a new Duleep Trophy record. With India A trailing by 187 runs at the end of Day 2, all results were still possible heading into the final stages of the match.
At the time of writing, India A are at 198-5, with Tanush Kotian and Shivam Dube at the crease.
