Pakistan’s chapter after Babar Azam’s resignation as an all-format captain began miserably, as they suffered humiliation in the first two Tests of the three-match series in Australia. Under the leadership of Shan Masood, the visitors lost by 360 runs in the tournament opener and then followed it with a 79-run defeat, resulting in them losing the series with a game to spare.

Babar himself failed to live up to the expectations across both Tests, but one gesture that he made towards Steve Smith on Friday (December 29) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) sparked a lot of attention.

It all started when Pakistan came back after the tea break, with Babar and Masood in the middle. The former Pakistan skipper, while taking the guard, was poked by the former Australian captain. Just when Babar was talking to the on-field umpire, Smith came from behind, and then Babar almost gave his bat to Smith to go.

The Australian enjoyed the banter, and he smilingly apologised with folded hands towards him.

Babar will be back in action at Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3 when the two sides will play one final time in the last Test of the series.
