Ajinkya Rahane gave a timely reminder of his presence amidst the brewing disappointment of India's horrific collapses in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa with a clip of the discarded middle-order batter training ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24.

As the Mumbai veteran geared up for his next season at the first-class level, he was seen practising against the red-ball one day after the Indian team suffered an innings defeat in another part of the world in Centurion.

The Rohit Sharma-led outfit were out for 245 and 131 against the mighty threatening Proteas pace battery, which gave them no respite on a treacherous surface at the SuperSports Park in the first Test of the series.

While the collapse was going, a section of cricket lovers on social media had missed Rahane, who was so often India's crisis man in his prime before a sustained dip in scoring led to the man's ouster from the Test match set-up.

During the clip, Rahane suggested there are "no rest days" for him as he focuses hard on reviving Mumbai's fortunes as player and captain after a disappointing Ranji season last winter. The domestic cricket giants are due to kickstart their latest campaign against Bihar in the first-round game of Elite Group B on January 5.

Rahane was initially deemed set to travel to South Africa after forcing his way back into the Test team via the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June against Australia, where he produced knocks of 89 and 46.

However, struggles in the following series against the West Indies while middle-order incumbent Shreyas Iyer returned from his injury, once again forced the veteran out of reckoning for the series in the rainbow nation.
