Pat Cummins led Australia with command and took a magnificent five-wicket haul to close out another resounding win over Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG on Friday (December 29).

The Aussie skipper and spearhead finished with figures of 5 for 49 off his 18 overs as Pakistan capitulated to 237 late on Day 4 in their quest to chase down 317.

The tall speedster once again extracted life out of the drying surface and continued his love affair with the iconic venue with his second ten-wicket haul in a flourishing 57-Test career for Australia.

Cummins's class and ability to generate late movement in the air and off the deck ultimately proved to be the difference, even as Pakistan fought hard and gave the Aussies a mini scare.

Cummins Lead Australia's Charge At MCG

Having taken figures of 5 for 48 in the first half to help Australia bag a priceless lead of 54 runs after posting 318, Cummins backed it up with another spirited burst on a scorching afternoon and ran through the defiant Pakistani line-up.

At the other end, fiery left-arm quick Mitchell Starc overcame slight fatigue evident through the post-lunch session to take four wickets for 55 runs. However, perhaps the biggest wicket of the afternoon was delivered by Josh Hazlewood (1/34), who dismissed Pakistan giant Babar Azam after the modern-day stalwart had fought his way hard to 41 off 79 balls.

Earlier, Cummins ended skipper Shan Masood's counterattacking knock of 60 from 71 deliveries with a perfect outswinger. The wickets of Babar and Masood were always the big ones for Australia, as it meant extra pressure on the rest of the gutsy but vulnerable Pakistani line-up.

Comeback wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan's free-flowing 35 and No.7 Agha Salman's fighting knock of 50 did bring about nerves and a bit of anxiety for Australia, but the skilful hosts eventually reigned supreme and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
