Vaibhav Suryavanshi went bonkers against Sri Lanka Under-19 in the second semifinal of the ongoing Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, December 6. Opening the innings with Ayush Mhatre for India, Suryavanshi blazed his way to a whirlwind 36-ball 67 with six boundaries and five towering sixes.
Aged 13, the prodigious batting talent took a special liking to Dulnith Sigera, considering he extracted 31 runs off the Sri Lankan seamer in just the second over of the Indian run-chase.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi justifies Rajasthan Royals faith
Just a couple of days after smacking a match-winning 46-ball 76* against UAE, Vaibhav Suryavanshi clobbered another 36-ball 67, this time taking the high-flying Sri Lankan attack to the cleaners in the second semifinal of the 2024 Under-19 Asia Cup.
Suryavanshi smeared six boundaries and five sixes in the process, and shared a swift 91-run partnership in just 8.3 overs with fellow opener Ayush Mhatre.
Remarkably, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made 22 off those runs in just the second over of the run-chase by whacking Dulnith Sigera with a boundary and three sixes. Sigera’s five wides and four byes ended up making it a 31-run over in favor of the Indian team.
Even though Vaibhav Suryavanshi was knocked over by Praveen Maneesha at 133-2, India Under-19 stormed their way to a seven-wicket victory in just 21.3 overs to seal a spot in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 finals alongside Bangladesh.
Last month, Suryavanshi was roped in by the Rajasthan Royals franchise at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Saudi Arabia. In doing so, the 13-year-old became the youngest cricketer in history to bag an IPL contract.
