Lahore Qalandars crumbled in front of Bangladesh-based Rangpur Riders in match number 10 of the Global Super League (GSL) 2024 season. Chasing a revised target of 111 in nine overs, Qalandars lost three of their top four batters within the opening over itself, including two to Rangpur Riders spinner and Bangladesh international star Mahedi Hasan.
Failing to overcome the early setback, Lahore Qalandars fell short of their target by 23 runs (DLS method) to slip to number four on the 2024 Global Super League points table.
Ex-PSL winners exposed by BPL’s Rangpur Riders
Lahore Qalandars, having won the 2022 and 2023 editions of the PSL, lost to Bangladesh Premier League’s Rangpur Riders in the final league match of the GSL 2024 season at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Notably, Riders failed to qualify for the finals of the BPL 2024 season earlier this year.
Chasing 111 from nine overs, Lahore Qalandars lost opener Adam Rossington (1) to a runout at the non-strikers end, before Luke Wells and Mohammad Faizan were both dismissed for ducks by Rangpur Riders spinner Mahedi Hasan, all within the opening over of the innings.
Crashing to 1-3 in 0.5 overs, Lahore Qalandars also lost their fourth wicket in the form of Muhammad Akhlaq with just 14 on the board. Mahedi Hasan, having picked up two wickets in the opening over, claimed astonishing figures of 3-11 in his two-over spell to restrict Qalandars to just 87-7 in a nine-overs-a-side game.
Earlier in the match, Rangpur Riders hauled 85-1 in nine overs before rains halted play in Guyana. Opener Steven Taylor top-scored with 32* from 27 balls while number three Saif Hasan made 27* off 14.
Rangpur Riders’ 23-run win (DLS method) helped them qualify for the GSL 2024 final. They will now face Australia-based Cricket Victoria at the same Guyana venue on December 6.
